Words and Walking

There has been a lot going on around our house lately.  Most of it having to do with Kaitlyn – the world sort of revolves around her, you know?   Kaitlyn turned one and all of a sudden her little brain kicked into over-drive.  Not that she wasn’t learning things fast before, but oh my!

Kaitlyn uses the following words consistently and in context, though she has her own version of each of them:  balloon, blueberry, cheese, socks, shoes, bow, dog, geese, swing, car, nose, eye, cute, walk, yea, bath, Mama, Dada, up, banana, meat, right back, one, two, three,  milk, bird, spoon, bowl, boat, and belt.  And I know there are more, but at the moment I can’t think of them.

Kaitlyn also signs a bunch more words – it is really nice to know what she is saying even when you can’t understand the sounds she’s making!

She knows the sounds for horses, dogs, cats, lions, snakes, sheep and makes beaver teeth for beavers.

She can point to her head, shoulders, knees, toes, eyes, ears, nose, and sometimes mouth – if she’s in the right mood.

She does the funniest things: She takes off my glasses and then puckers her lips for a kiss when she wants a kiss from me.  Kaitlyn loves to have her neck tickled so will ride around in the shopping cart look at the ceiling of the store so we can tickle her, sometimes she rides around with an arm in the air if she wants us to tickle under her arm.  She tries to get out of doing things (like going to bed) by asking for more stories, water, food, to play, or to walk – anything she can think of!  Kaitlyn has to sleep with bear under one arm and her dolly under the other, when she wakes up she hands each of them out of the crib to us and we have to give bear and her doll each a hug then pick her up and give everyone a hug!  We have to spell the word SWING when we are talking with Kaitlyn in the room.  If we don’t then we are doomed to hear her say it over and over and over- asking if we can go swing she loves it so MUCH! This last week I told Kaitlyn that I was hot while we were getting her out of her car seat and she started blowing on me - because it works on her food?!?

AND, it is official!  She’s walking!  This last week we had some very tentative walking between couches across the living room, now Kaitlyn can walk anywhere she wants to go, though she forgets at times and still crawls – she thinks walking is super useful for chasing after the bunny!  She still holds her arms out like she is Frankenstein, and is rather slow, but I know it isn’t going to be long before she’s zipping around without any hesitation.

We’re working on getting a walking video and some clips with her talking – she tends to stop talking as soon as the camera comes out.  Though, she talks non-stop all day!

In the mean time enjoy the pictures below, and if you haven’t looked back at the older ones in a while check out K as a baby - http://neiharts.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
OH how she’s changed!

What a fun age Kaitlyn is now! She's right about everyone needing hugs and loves. She's able to express herself, make her needs known, and begin to learn caring for others (bunny) and being empathetic. And with her new mobility, she's able to go where she wants and meet some of her own needs. What a love! Great job, Mom and Dad!
